Press Break v. Diamond step 1
Step 13UP - start with 3 players up across the FT line extended and force the diamond press to go man to man or leave the pass open in the middle. Move the 5 under the basket to force X5 to give up space to protect the basket. The higher the 5 man plays, the more the X5 can get involved in traps and steals. Plus its always good to have a homerun pass available. Start your 3 man on ballside since they are probably taller to see over the trap, but remember to avoid passing to the corner ballside unless last resort. The 1 is the middle because your best ballhandler can kill this press there. We want the first pass to go to the 2. NO CATCH AREA - DO NOT PASS BELOW BLOCK
Press Break v. Diamond step 2
Step 2IDEAL SITUATION This is perfect to break this press. ALWAYS try to break the diamond press on the large side of the floor where the X4 has farther to run to trap.
Press Break v. Diamond step 3
Step 3RESULT This is the ideal result of this press break as the 2 hits the 1 and the 1 hits the 5 and the 5 goes over top to the 4 for the score.
Press Break v. Diamond step 4
Step 41 DENIED BY 3 4 stays high to pressure release as the 3 is passed the ball. 3 hits 4 and 4 hits the 5 then to the 1 to the rim.
Press Break v. Diamond step 5
Step 5You have to really be slow and mess up to get to this point, but just in case it happens, here are your options. 3 is denied and 1 is denied and 2 is trapped.
Press Break v. Diamond step 6
Step 62 must attack the 4 and create a passing angle. 4 cuts to get open for the 2. 2 hits 4 and cuts hard middle for return pass. the 1 cuts to the middle OR cuts to fill the left lane. 5 cuts to fill ballside hash for pass from 3.
