Step 1The 2 is waved through and cuts through the elbow as the 5 cuts to the opposite block and gets position at the elbow. The 2 cuts in a way that sets a kind of "brush screen" to get 5 open at the elbow. As the 2 cuts through the elbow, the 4 drops to the corner to protect from a blindside steal. As a set play call or a counter to overplay on the 2 in the CHIN, the WAVE series has 3 options: (Away, Over, Under)Step 2After the bball has been passed to the high post, 5, the 1 cuts OVER the top of the ball to set a fake screen for 4.Step 34 sets up the backcut by moving in the directio fo 1 before cutting backdoor looking for the pass by 5 for the lay-up.Step 41 pops back out for the pass from 5. 1 must not be in the corner on the catch. If denied, 1 will go backdoor for the layup. 4 finishes the cut to the rim. 3 moves above the weakside elbow to set a screen for 4 AND to see how the dfense is going to play the side pick and roll between 1 and 5.Step 53 sets a down screen for 4 cutting to the tops. 1 attacks off the ball screen and 5 rolls to the basket for the pass from 1. The first option for the 1 is a layup, the second option is for 5 rolling to the hooop, the third option is to pass 4 near the top of the keyStep 6Vs. TRAP on Ball Screen If the defense traps the ballscreen, the 1 strings out the trap by dribbling higher and pulling the two defenders away. The 3 sees the trap and sprints to the top of the key for the pass. The 5 sets the ball screen then rolls to the basket. Once the 3 catches the pass up top, the ball is immediately passed to the 5 for the layup. If the 1 does a good job of pulling the trap then this high/low attack is a good counter as long as the 3 cuts for the ball up top. 4 clears out to the top.Step 7If there are no options for the 1 and the defense is not trapping, then 1 dribbles up to the guard spot. 4 cuts off the down screen by 3 for the pass from 1. 2 fills the wing spot. 5 has rolled to the basket.Step 8AIR FORCE VERSION In this version of the offense, the 3 is the new POST player and the 5 fills the wing position. Remember, this is only for this possession and positions will change back the next offensive possession. 1 reverses to 4 who then passes to 2 on the wing. The new POST 3 is prepared to begin the STRONGSIDE phase and is ready to set the UCLA screen for 4 cutting to the hoop.Step 9HIGH SCHOOL VERSION In the high school version of this offense, most coaches will want to keep their POST player in a familiar position. This is how to do that: 1 has no options off the ball screen by 5 and the roll option is not open. The 1 passes to the 3 coming to the top. There is no downscreen in this version. The 4 fills the open corner spot INSTEAD of cutting to the top of the keyStep 10After the pass to the 3, the 1 fills the corner spot and the offense is now in the OAH Point phase of the offense. The 3 passes to the 5 then executes one of the 3 cuts of the Point series. KEY: It is generally better to go into Away at this point in the offense to get the weakside defense moving. Generally, the weakside will get lazy and allow for a backcut in Point-Away.Step 11At any point as 5 is moving to set the side ball screen, if the defender on 1 (X1) plays too high anticipating the ball screen, 1 may drive the baseline for the layup. KEY: It is a good idea to at least set the defense up with a hard dribble baseline before corssing over into the ball screen by 5. Do not do this every time, but it is a tactic to prevent the defense from becoming comfortable.Step 12HIGH SCHOOL VERSION 2 This is another version of the high school Princeton offense that is an option. The side ball screen is used to reverse the ball. The 3 cuts backdoor as the 2 fills the wing position. After the backcut by 4, the 4 returns to the corner position. 5 follows 1 after the ball screen to the elbow.Step 13The 1 passes to the 2 filling the wing position. The 3 cuts into a postup. After the pass by the 1 to the 2, we have the POST-FLARE options. The 5 sets a flare screen for the 1. 2 must make a desicion to pass the ball to the post, to 1 cutting off the flare, to 5 after the screen, or, if no one is open, the 2 dribbles up to the top to run CHIN.Step 14POST-FLARE OPTIONS The first option if the post is not open, the 2 passes to the 1 off the flare screen. The 1 attacks the lane line for the score or draw and kick for the 4.Step 15SIDE PICK AND ROLL OPTION: POST 4 The 1 dribbles off the side screen by the 5 to the top of the key. The 5 screen then pops back into a position on the wing. After the backcut by the 4, the 4 reverse pivots into a strong post position looking for the ball from the 5.Step 16SIDE PICK AND ROLL OPTION: POST 5 The 1 dribbles off the side screen by the 5 to the top of the key. The 5 screens then pops back into a position on the wing. After the backcut by the 4, the 4 moves to the wing position to set a backscreen for the 5 cutting into the post. Depending on the timing of the screen, the 1 can look for the 5 diving to the rim after the backscreen or the 1 can pass to the 4 after the backscreen.Step 17If the ball is passed to the 4, the 4 will look to enter the ball into the post. Once the ball is in the post, we have our LOW POST options.
