Low Post Set step 1
Step 1Ball is entered into the post. As a coach, one must choose what happens next based on your personnel and offensive goals. COACHES POINT: Choose one option and get your players to execute that option before giving them a choice of options.
Low Post Set step 2
Step 2If the post is open they try to score. The first option is the high post split. The 3 will set a screen at the elbow for the top position, in this case, the 2 man. The 2 will step hard to the basket and FINISH THE CUT if open. If not, then the 2 will cut to the wing position left open by 3. After the screen in the elbow by the 3, the 3 will cut to the rim looking for the dump pass from 5. The weakside players rotate into the top and wing positions as the 3 fills the corner spot.
Low Post Set step 3
Step 3If the post is open they try to score. As the 2 is moving to cut off the screen by the 3, the 2 reads the defense and backcuts to the rim for the dump pass. The 3 fills the strongside wing position after attempting to screen in at the elbow. The 4 and 1 fill the top and wing positions respectively as the 2 fills the corner position.
Low Post Set step 4
Step 4If the post is open they try to score. As the 2 is moving to cut off the screen by the 3, the 2 reads the defense playing tight on 2. The 2 curls off the screen set by 3 to the rim. The 2 looks for the dump pass from 5. The 3 fills the strongside wing position after attempting to screen in at the elbow. The 4 and 1 fill the top and wing positions respectively as the 2 fills the corner position.
Low Post Set step 5
Step 5This is a different option after the pass is made into the post made famous by Tex Winter's Triangle Offense. The 3 passes into the low post and cuts hard backdoor looking for the dump pass from 5. If the 3 is not open, the 3 continues to cut and fill the corner position. The 2 rotates positions into the strongside wing position. The 4 fills the top position as the 1 fills the wing position. Low Post Entry: Laker Cut
